Seventy-five years ago, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration on Human Rights, a monumental document in the history of human rights. Written by representatives from around the world with different legal, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds, it is the first document articulating the fundamental human rights that are meant to be universally protected. In recognition of this milestone, and looking to a future that delivers on the promise to ensure that all persons, including all older persons, fully enjoy their human rights and fundamental freedoms, the 33rd commemoration of the United Nations International Day of Older Persons will focus on the theme of “Fulfilling the Promises of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for Older Persons: Across Generations” (Source: United Nations).
As of previous years, the BWHC celebrated the International Day of Older Person (IDOP) on 01 October 2023 in collaboration with the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and with other development partners and NGOs working in this field.

In this celebration, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Social Welfare Mr. Nuruzzaman Ahmed MP, graced the occasion as Chief Guest where Md. Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru M.P, Hon’le State Minister, Ministry of Social Welfare, Mr. Rashed Khan Menon MP, Chairman of Standing Committee for Ministry of Social Welfare, Dr. Pran Gopal Datta M.P, Dr. Kazi Kholikuzzaman, Mr. Md. Jahangir Alam, Secretary, Ministry of Social Welfare, Mr. Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal, PhD, Director General, Department of Social Services along with hundreds of participants from different stakeholders joined the celebration. BWHC Executive Director Mr. Sharif Mostafa Helal along with BWHC staffs also participated in the rally and discussion session.

Apart from the national program, BWHC Executive Director Mr. Sharif Mostafa Helal also joined another similar program for IDOP 2023 organized by Resources Integration Center (RIC) and alliance and delivered his valuable speech.
