2. HIV/AIDS & STI Prevention (Modhumita) Project

Inception: 15 September 2003

Goal: To reduce the risk of STI/HIV transmission among hotel based female sex workers and their clients in 41 hotels involved in sex trade within Dhaka city

Objective: Create a supportive environment for STI/HIV prevention through social mobilization & risk reduction practices through outreach & integrated health centers

Activities:

  • Awareness & outreach activities by peer educators at hotels
  • Male condom promotion, distribution & demonstration
  • STI case management
  • Providing an effective & high quality Voluntary Counseling, Testing (VCT) & provide result
  • Quality assurance & quality improvement
  • Advocacy, sensitization & awareness raising activity
  • Day observation (TB, AIDS, Women & Health Day)
  • Capacity building activities/training for staffs
  • Referral linkage for diagnosis & treatment (DOTS) of TB
  • Refer drug using sex workers & their clients for treatment & rehabilitation
  • Family planning and limited curative care services
